GOBLET, René René Goblet L.A.S. "René Goblet" addressed to "Monsieur le Président" [probably Édouard Detaille]. Paris, April 8, 1897. 1 page small in-8 on headed paper of the Chamber of Deputies. Short but elegant letter of political courtesy in which René Goblet accepts an invitation to a meeting scheduled for the following day: "Nothing, I think, will prevent me from responding to the invitation you wish to extend to me, and it is with eagerness that I will attend your meeting tomorrow, Friday...". The former French Prime Minister and leading figure in Republican radicalism concludes by sending the recipient "the assurance of [his] high consideration". An interesting item on official Chamber of Deputies paper, testifying to the political and republican sociability of the late 19th century. Very good condition.
