GLEIZAL, Auguste - Lot 72
GLEIZAL, Auguste
Auguste Gleizal
L.A.S. "Gleizal" addressed to a colleague.
Privas, August 2, 1871. 2 pages in-8.
Interesting political and judicial letter written in the troubled post-Commune context.
Gleizal mentions his intention "to appeal against the bulletin des communes" and explains that he has already submitted a note to the newspaper Le Réveil. He suggested that his correspondents pool their legal action:
"Instead of each of us bringing a separate action, wouldn't it be better to have a single summons issued in the name of all those of us who would like to sue?"
The letter bears witness to the defense and organization strategies of Republican circles after the fall of the Paris Commune. Gleizal also stresses the importance of obtaining favorable jurisprudence before the case is litigated in the provinces:
"...the same case will have been tried in Paris and in the neighborhood, and a jurisprudence will undoubtedly have been established on the question..."
Finally, he mentions several solicitors and legal collaborators, giving this piece real documentary interest for the political and judicial history of the early Third Republic.
A fine piece of political combat, combining press, procedure and republican solidarity around the newspaper Le Réveil, close to the International and Gambetta circles.
Very good condition.
