GARDANNE (Charles, Pierre, Louis). French physician, author - Lot 63
GARDANNE (Charles, Pierre, Louis). French physician, author of Avis aux femmes qui entrent dans l'âge critique. L.A.S. "Ch. Gardanne" to Monsieur Lachaise. Paris, August 21, 1827. 1 p. ½ in-8 with address on verso. Interesting familiar letter mixing friendly reproach and business to be settled promptly. Gardanne opens his letter in a tone of annoyed camaraderie: "As an old comrade, I'll scold you; you're meeting me at my place from noon to one. I've always waited for you, so much so that you've prevented my walk, so I've got a good headache tonight." The doctor then clarifies his schedule for the following day, and mentions a case he wishes to conclude quickly: "If you think that your presence is not necessary, let me know, but tell me on paper what I must do. On the one hand, because this affair disgusts me; on the other, because I'm leaving in four or five days for my mother-in-law's country estate." A beautiful letter with a lively, spontaneous tone, revealing the friendly and professional customs of a Parisian doctor under the Restoration. Autograph address on verso. A few small marginal tears without affecting the text. Good condition.
