FONTAUD (Abbé de) - Lot 57
FONTAUD (Abbé de) French ecclesiastic of the early 19th century. L.A.S. "l'abbé de Fontaud" to the Dean of the University. Paris, December 30, 1822. 1 page in-4 on printed letterhead of the "Université de France - Académie de Paris". Interesting letter concerning the registration of a foreign medical student. Abbé de Fontaud requests an exceptional favor from the Dean so that a young man can take his exam immediately before leaving Paris for Amiens: "I beg you with great urgency to have a young foreigner (...) take his examination this very day, in order to enroll him in medicine." He points out that the candidate "speaks the French language with difficulty" and warmly recommends his protégé to the benevolence of the university: "Mon protégé (...) je demande pour lui votre indulgence et celle de vos estimables collègues." An interesting document for university and medical history under the Restoration, testifying to the registration procedures for foreign students at the Paris Faculty of Medicine in the early 19th century. Beautiful piece on official University of France paper, with fine autograph signature.
