ESTRÉES (Angélique d') - Lot 56
ESTRÉES (Angélique d')
(1574-1634). Abbess of Maubuisson, then of Notre-Dame de Bertaucourt (diocese of Amiens). Sister of Gabrielle d'Estrées.
P.S. "Angélique d'Estrées, Abbesse de Bertaucourt".
Paris, rue des Bons-Enfants, July 17, 1601. 2 handwritten folio pages.
Important legal and administrative document relating to an ecclesiastical dispute concerning tithes in Artois.
In this deed, Abbess Angélique d'Estrées revokes the power of attorney previously granted to Adrien de Vérité, procureur au Conseil d'Artois, in a lawsuit against :
"Messire Françoys Dalliereaulx, prestre..."
The document details the powers previously granted to this procurator to defend the abbey's interests in this matter of tithes and ecclesiastical revenues, before pronouncing its formal annulment. The densely-written document, typical of the early 17th century, is an interesting testimony to the judicial practices and temporal management of women's religious establishments during the reign of Henri IV.
Fine autograph signature of Angélique d'Estrées at the bottom of the document.
Historically interesting for the d'Estrées family's links with the royal court and religious institutions of the time.
