DUPUY, Jean - Lot 55
DUPUY, Jean Jean Dupuy L.A.S. "Dupuy" to a colleague. Paris, September 25, 1912. 1 page in-8 on letterhead of the Cabinet of the Minister of Public Works, Posts and Telegraphs. Interesting political letter concerning the awarding of administrative decorations under the Raymond Poincaré government. Jean Dupuy, then Minister of Public Works, talks to a parliamentary colleague about a special quota recently voted by the Chambers: "The Chambers have voted a new contingent..." However, he points out the limits of this measure: "In any case, this quota has in reality a special allocation which could not include Mr. Jourde..." and cautiously concludes: "But we'll probably have to wait until January." A revealing document on the mechanisms for recommending and managing honors under the Third Republic, in a context where ministerial intervention played an essential role in administrative promotions and decorations. Jean Dupuy, founder of the Le Petit Parisien press group, was a major political and media figure of the Belle Époque. Minister on several occasions, he was a member of the Poincaré cabinet in 1912. Good condition, usual folds.
