DUNOYER (Charles) - Lot 54
DUNOYER (Charles)
Paris, 1786 - 1862. Liberal economist, publicist and statesman. State Councillor under the July Monarchy, contributor to Le Censeur européen with Charles Comte.
L.A.S. to Girod de l'Ain.
Paris, March 7, 1838. 1/2 page in-4 in black ink, with autograph address on verso and remnant of red wax seal.
Interesting autograph letter from Charles Dunoyer to Paul Girod de l'Ain, then President of the Interior Section of the Conseil d'État, illustrating administrative and political relations under the July Monarchy.
Forced to leave Paris temporarily, Dunoyer explains:
"Family affairs of the saddest nature oblige me to leave precipitately..."
He then expressed his regret at not being able to attend the Council's meetings:
"...I shall hasten upon my return to take part again in its work."
A sober and moving document, combining public duty and family concerns, signed by an important figure in 19th-century French economic liberalism.
Well-preserved, despite a few marginal creases and small tears; address leaf with stamp preserved, a much-appreciated collector's item.
