DESMARETS (Nicolas) - Lot 51
DESMARETS (Nicolas) Paris, 1648 - 1721. Seigneur de Maillebois. Comptroller General of Finances under Louis XIV, then Minister of State. An important figure in financial administration at the end of the Sun King's reign. Printed document with signed receipt. Paris, May 18, 1713. Large oblong folio on parchment, with handwritten annotations, signatures and Revenus Casuels seal. A rare and interesting administrative document from the Financial Regency at the end of the reign of Louis XIV, concerning the rights and revenues attached to an ancient, alternative and triennial office. The document mentions, in particular, the payment of substantial sums to the Trésor des Revenus Casuels, as well as the privileges attached to the offices concerned: exemptions from tailles, housing of gens de guerre, watch and guard, guardianship and other administrative prerogatives. Significant handwritten presence on verso with visa and control of the Revenus Casuels; signatures and administrative mentions of the period. Fine parchment-based documentary material, typical of early 18th-century royal financial deeds. Well-preserved despite the wear, creases, small marginal tears and soiling inherent to this type of early administrative document.
