CARNOT, Hippolyte (1801-1888). French politician, Minister o - Lot 15
CARNOT, Hippolyte (1801-1888). French politician, Minister of Public Instruction under the Second Republic, republican deputy and key figure in the liberal and democratic movement of the 19th century.
Autograph letter signed and addressed to Madame Jules Simon, dated "Meudon, June 3, 1863".
Charming congratulatory letter addressed to Jules Simon's wife, in an obviously electoral or political context. Carnot warmly expresses his joy at the news of a success he attributes to "our elected representative".
The signatory writes:
"I will go tomorrow, with all my heart, to celebrate our success with you and toast our elected representative."
This short letter bears witness to the close ties between the leading figures of the Republican party during the Second Empire. It is of particular interest for its indirect addressee - Jules Simon, future Minister and President of the Council - as well as for the familiar and enthusiastic tone of the message, revealing the political solidarity of the liberal opposition before 1870.
One page in-8 on folded leaf, dated and signed "Carnot". Sending folds; very good condition.
