BAROCHE, Pierre-Jules - Lot 2
BAROCHE, Pierre-Jules Pierre-Jules Baroche L.A.S. "Baroche", Minister of Justice and Cults, addressed to the Minister of Public Instruction. Paris, January 16, 1869. 1 folio page on letterhead of the Ministère de la Justice et des Cultes, Direction des Affaires criminelles et des Grâces. Important administrative letter concerning a political affair overseen by the imperial government. Baroche acknowledges receipt of a report sent by the Inspection académique concerning a "so-called private meeting" held in Lesparre on the previous December 19: "Your Excellency has kindly sent me a report that Mr. Malguer, Inspecteur d'Académie, had addressed to him concerning a so-called private meeting held in Lesparre on December 19." The Minister specified that he had kept a copy of the report and announced that he had requested the intervention of the Bordeaux public prosecutor to hear the inspector as a witness: "By letter of today's date, I invite Mr. Procureur Général près la Cour Impériale de Bordeaux to call Mr. Malguer as a witness...". Very interesting testimony to the mechanisms of administrative and judicial surveillance under the Second Empire, just a few months before its fall. Presence of contemporary handwritten marginal annotations. Fine piece on large official paper, with wet ministry stamp.
