JACQUES MARTIN - Alix - Iorix the Great - Lot 302
JACQUES MARTIN - Alix - Iorix the Great JACQUES MARTIN Alix - Iorix the Great. Casterman, 1972. In-4 hardback, boards illustrated in color. Tenth album in the mythical historical saga of Alix, created by Jacques Martin. The story focuses on Iorix, an ambitious and charismatic Gallic leader who has been entrusted by Rome with the command of auxiliary troops. Torn between his responsibilities to the Empire and his thirst for independence for his people, Iorix turns to revolt. Alix is sent to the front line to try and defuse this politically violent fratricidal conflict. Jacques Martin delivers a particularly dark and psychological scenario, highlighting the complexity of relations between the Roman occupiers and the conquered peoples. The front cover features an equestrian battle scene of remarkable dramatic tension, underlined by a flamboyant sky. Justification page and special features : CASTERMAN 1972 - Translation and reproduction rights reserved for all countries. Printer's code letter: B (indicating first print run 1972 / original edition). Second board: column-type catalog listing 10 titles and ending with the present volume (Iorix the Great), confirming the original edition. We note an early handwritten inscription in ink ("Christophe") at the top of the box on the second cover, as well as small pencil notches in front of several titles in the list. Copy in poor condition. The contemporary hardback shows heavy signs of age. The first board is very tired, with deep wear, major rubbing over the entire surface and heavily dulled and crushed corners. The left spine is heavily damaged, split and crudely reinforced at the bottom with old, yellowed and peeling adhesive tape. The second board is also rubbed and soiled, with notable paper losses on the right-hand edge and spine. The interior remains complete but tired, with significant damp stains, pronounced foxing in the lower margins (notably on the justification page) and signs of intensive handling. An original 1972 edition that remains a reading document for this tragic milestone in the series.
