JACQUES MARTIN - Alix - The Savage God - Lot 297
JACQUES MARTIN - Alix - The Savage God JACQUES MARTIN Alix - Le Dieu sauvage. Casterman, 1971. In-4 hardback, covers illustrated in color. Ninth album in the historical Alix saga, created by Jacques Martin. The plot opens with a spellbinding mystery: a mysterious statuette with emerald eyes is spreading madness and terror in Roman Gaul. Alix and Enak find themselves plunged into the heart of a sinister plot involving religious fanaticism, political plots and ancient barbarian forces ready to undermine the authority of Rome. Here, Jacques Martin pushes his art of historical reconstitution to a striking degree of realism, supported by his famous "Ligne Claire" style inherited from the Brussels school. The album's sultry, memorable atmosphere plays wonderfully with the shadows of the great temples and the fires of clandestine cults. Justification and dating page : © Casterman 1970 - Translation and reproduction rights reserved for all countries. Printer's code: 1 B (indicating a 1971 print run). Second cover: column-type catalog listing 8 titles for the Alix series (ending with Le Sphinx d'or) and announcing L'Ouragan de feu "A paraître" for the Lefranc series. Note the old small pencil notches in front of the title list on the second plate. Copy in good condition. Solid period boards. Dense, contrasting colors on first board, featuring Alix with sword in hand, facing an idol. Corners and headpieces show slight signs of wear, very typical for an album from this period. The interior is complete, clean and perfectly sound. A fine copy of this early '70s print run. A masterpiece of Franco-Belgian historical comics.
