JACQUES MARTIN - Alix - Alix the Intrepid - Lot 296
JACQUES MARTIN - Alix - Alix the Intrepid
JACQUES MARTIN
Alix - Alix l'intrépide.
Casterman, 1973. In-4 hardback, boards illustrated in color.
The very first album of Alix's adventures, marking the birth of the series created by Jacques Martin in 1948 for the newspaper Tintin. The story lays the foundations for the saga: of Gallic origin, reduced to slavery, young Alix is adopted by a Roman nobleman, Honorus Galla. He soon finds himself embroiled in the Roman civil wars and the plots hatched by the redoubtable Arbaces, becoming Julius Caesar's protégé.
Here, Jacques Martin lays the foundations for modern historical comics. The first plate features a mythical, dynamic illustration, showing the young hero with his sword held high, rearing his horse in the midst of a fiery battle.

Solid period boards. First cover remains fresh and bright, with superb vividness of background yellows and reds. Very slight wear to corners. The red spine is complete and well preserved, showing a little wear to the lower right-hand corner of the second plate. The interior is clean, sound and complete, with no erasures or tears. A very fine copy of this early 1970s edition.
The founding album of the greatest Franco-Belgian historical saga.
