JACQUES MARTIN - Alix - The Tiara of Oribal - Lot 293
JACQUES MARTIN - Alix - The Tiara of Oribal JACQUES MARTIN Alix - La Tiare d'Oribal. Casterman, 1966. In-4 hardback, boards illustrated in color. Third album in the historical saga of Alix. The plot takes the young Gallo-Roman hero and his companion Enak on an epic adventure to the heart of the Near East. They cross paths with young Prince Oribal, robbed of his rightful throne, and decide to help him reclaim his kingdom from a cruel usurper. Jacques Martin skilfully blends ancient geopolitics with a breath of romance. The first plate features a superb, dynamic maritime composition illustrating an attack by warships, typical of the author's graphic mastery. Justification page and special features: © CASTERMAN 1966. - Translation and reproduction rights reserved for all countries. Second board: "column" type with white border reading "Déjà parus" (Les Légions perdues, La Griffe noire, La Tiare d'Oribal) and "A paraître" (Le Sphinx d'or, Alix l'intrépide, L'Île maudite). Note an old handwritten inscription in ink ("Christophe") in the top left-hand corner of the box on the second cover. A pencil tick has also been placed in front of each title in the list. Copy in good used condition. Solid period boards. First board remains clean with a beautiful contrast of salmon colors of the sky, despite minor rubbing on the edges. The original red cloth spine is present, showing slight wear to the headpieces. Corners dulled. The interior shows scattered freckling and oxidation stains (also visible by transparency on the justification page), but remains complete, sound and without tears. A very authentic 60's edition of this great classic.
