STANISLAS NIKIREEV (1932–2007) 3Winter Landscape3? Etching, signed, numbered 16/80 H 15 x W 15 cm Stanislav Mikhailovich Nikireev trained at the Penza School of Fine Arts, then at the Surikov Institute (Moscow Academic Institute of Art). There he studied printmaking under M. N. Aleksich and drawing under E. A. Kibrik (1906–1978). A member of the Union of Artists of the USSR since 1970, he pursued a career typical of artists in the USSR, marked by official awards: • Diploma from the USSR Academy of Arts for a series of landscapes and still lifes in 1974. • Winner of the Repin Prize in 1978 (RSFSR State Prize) for a series of etchings depicting landscapes of the Moscow region In 1978, he received the Silver Medal of the USSR Academy of Arts, again for his landscape etchings. And in 1983, he was appointed a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Arts. After perestroika, he continued to create and was widely appreciated. He became a full member of the Russian Academy of Arts in 2002, from which he received the Gold Medal. Stanislav Nikireev died in 2007 at the age of 75
