WALLON (Henri). - Lot 298
WALLON (Henri). Born in Paris, 1879 - died in 1962. French psychologist, philosopher and physician, a major figure in child psychology. Professor at the Collège de France. Autograph letter signed "H. Wallon", addressed to Pierre Abraham. No place given, January 17, 1930. Three pages on writing paper. Nice long letter about Pierre Abraham's book Les Créatures chez Balzac, recently published by Gallimard. Henri Wallon thanks his correspondent for the "happy surprise" of seeing his name at the head of one of the "figures" studied, then gives an in-depth analysis of the book. He underlines the book's "power to imagine the individual and to disarticulate him", as well as the dual force of intuition and analysis that animates the work. He insists on the author's ability to render, through the characters, a genuine "psychological reality", where imagination and critical rigor are closely interwoven. The letter develops into a dense reflection on literary psychology, evoking the internal coherence of Balzacian characters and the way intellectual discoveries must meet and confirm each other to achieve true consistency. A very interesting letter combining literary criticism and psychological reflection, illustrating the links between literature and the human sciences between the wars, and testifying to the thinking of one of the great theorists of modern psychology.
