TORRES (Henry). - Lot 279
TORRES (Henry). TORRÈS (Henry). Born in Andelys, 1891 - 1966. French lawyer, man of letters and politician. A major figure at the Paris bar and on the left during the Third Republic, he defended several figures in the anarchist movement, including Germaine Berton and Ernesto Bonomini. Deputy for Alpes-Maritimes, then Senator for the Seine. Autograph letter signed "Henry Torrès", addressed to Jean-Loup Forain. Paris, July 8, 1939. Half-page in-4 on headed paper engraved with his name, mentioning his status as a lawyer and his address. Friendly letter. Henry Torrès thanks his correspondent for his "on the occasion of a happy birthday", regrets his absence and reiterates his feelings of friendship. An interesting account of literary and political sociability on the eve of the Second World War, bringing together a committed barrister and the artistic world (Jean-Loup Forain, son of the painter). A pleasant piece, simple in content but with a sophisticated signature.
