ROSTAND (Jean). - Lot 260
ROSTAND (Jean). Born in Paris, 1894 - died in Ville-d'Avray, 1977. French biologist, writer and academician, son of Edmond Rostand and Rosemonde Gérard. A major figure in the popularization of science, he devoted his research to amphibians and experimental biology, while also producing a significant body of literary and moral work. Autograph letter signed "Jean Rostand", addressed to "Monsieur" [Auguste Dupouy]. S.l., November 9, 1925. 1 page in-4. Letter of thanks for an article published in the journal Démocratie Nouvelle, devoted to one of his works. In it, Rostand elegantly expresses his gratitude for this critical testimonial, emphasizing how "the loyalty of your sympathy is particularly precious to me". An interesting account of Rostand's early literary career, illustrating the links between science, the press and criticism between the wars.
