FRENCH REVOLUTION - DIRECTOIRE MINISTRY OF WAR Certificate of exemption from military service year V of the Republic (1796-1797) Important official document, handwritten and partly printed on strong paper, headed : "French Republic, one and indivisible". with large cartouche bearing the coat of arms of the Republic and motto: "Liberté - Égalité". The text certifies, by order of the Executive Directory, the exemption from military service of citizen Brigeon, residing in Provins, rue de Troyes, department of Seine-et-Marne. The document is dated 5 Vendémiaire an V, with multiple endorsements, later handwritten notes, signatures and administrative stamps. The set includes several wet stamps and administrative seals, in particular : Ministry of War stamp seals of the municipality of Provins Executive Directory visas successive annotations and registrations A particularly decorative document, highly evocative of military administration under the Directoire. The historical interest lies in the bureaucratic operation of conscription and exemptions on the eve of the Consulate. Good condition, despite old folds, wear and minor edgewear, consistent with its administrative use.
