REGNAUD DE SAINT-JEAN D'ANGÉLY (Michel-Louis-Étienne). - Lot 248
REGNAUD DE SAINT-JEAN D'ANGÉLY (Michel-Louis-Étienne). Saint-Fargeau, 1760 - 1819. French politician, lawyer and journalist. Third State deputy to the Estates General of 1789, member of the "conciliators" group, he played an active role in the early days of the Revolution. Autograph letter signed "R. de St Jean d'Angely", addressed to the Duc de Feltre. Paris, November 10 [s.d.]. Half-page in-4 on watermarked laid paper "Pro Patria". Political letter. Regnaud informs Henri-Jacques-Guillaume Clarke, comte d'Hunebourg, duc de Feltre, that a Regnaud informs Henri-Jacques-Gillaume Clarke, Count Hunebourg, Duke of Feltre, that "an officer of my friends has sent me a note which I thought important", which he had copied and forwarded to him. This document reveals the circuits of information and exchanges between political figures at a troubled time, in a context where Regnaud and his correspondent were later to be harassed during the Revolution. Interesting testimony to political networks at the end of the 18th century, enriched by the quality of the "Pro Patria" patriotic watermarked paper. A sought-after historical piece with significant content.
