PORTIER (Paul) - Lot 238
PORTIER (Paul) Bar-sur-Seine, 1866 - 1962. French marine biologist and zoologist. Autograph card signed "P. Portier", addressed to a friend. Paris, April 26, 1906. 1 page in-12. Printed letterhead: "Faculté des sciences de Paris, Laboratoire de Physiologie Expérimentale, Sorbonne". Interesting card testifying to scientific activity and the networks for disseminating knowledge at the beginning of the XXᵉ century. Portier announces that he has obtained "an authorization from the Principality" allowing him to entrust his correspondent with projection shots, humorously referring to him as a "Monegasque lecturer". He also asked him to send a list of photographs - invertebrates, fish, cetaceans - showing the educational and scientific use of light projections in teaching and popularizing the natural sciences. A document evocative of the development of visual aids in the transmission of biological knowledge, and of collaboration between scientists in the prestigious institutional setting of the Sorbonne.
