PICARD (Émile) (1856-1941) French mathematician, member of the Académie des Sciences, specialist in analysis. Set of autograph correspondences signed "Em. Beautiful set of letters addressed by Émile Picard to Lucien Poincaré (brother of President Raymond Poincaré and cousin of Henri Poincaré), shedding light on the academic and scientific networks of the early 20th century. The letters address several key aspects of French scientific life: Positions and appointments Picard discusses M. Liard's succession to the Council of the Société des Amis des Sciences. Candidacy for the Académie française (1918) He confides that he decided to run "at the request of a few friends", although he does mention competition from Raymond Poincaré. Scientific and academic organization He requested the use of the Sorbonne salons for the activities of the Société des Amis des Sciences.
