PÉTION, Alexandre (1770-1818) President of the Republic of Haiti from 1807 to 1818, one of the main architects of Haitian independence. Coin signed "Pétion", Port-au-Prince, February 9, 1814. One folio page on laid paper, with printed letterhead "République d'Hayti", with the motto "Liberté - Égalité". Important administrative document addressed to the General Administrator of Finance, concerning an order for payment. President Pétion hereby orders the payment of a sum of : three hundred and forty-two gourdes in favor of a lady, in respect of two accounts presented and settled. The text mentions in particular: "I invite you, Citizen Administrator, to authorize for expenditure... the sum of three hundred and forty-two gourdes..." Beautiful, large and legible autograph signature at the bottom of the document. The verso bears the handwritten address to Directeur général des finances / Président d'Haïti, with period mailing fold. A document of great historical interest, accurately illustrating the financial and territorial management of the young Republic of Haiti, notably through the mention of the arrondissement of Nippes, an important region in the south of the country under Pétion's authority. Very good condition for this type of administrative document, with elegant presentation and legible handwriting.
