PASSPORT - CONSULATE GENERAL OF FRANCE IN LONDON - Lot 211
PASSPORT - CONSULATE GENERAL OF FRANCE IN LONDON Under the reign of Louis-Philippe I, King of the French. Partly printed and handwritten document, signed, issued in London, August 24, 1840, large folio on laid paper, with red Consulate wet stamp. A very fine and particularly decorative travel and identification document. The document authorizes passage from : "Mr. John Tathell, gentleman born in Dublin, residing there, on his way to : "to Le Havre via Portsmouth to continue his journey to Paris. The side column contains a comprehensive handwritten description: age (48), height, hair, eyebrows, eyes, shape of forehead, nose, mouth, chin and face. The bearer's autograph signature, the visa of the French Consul General in London and the chancellery fee are all present. On verso, interesting additional handwritten note: "visa de bonne et due forme ... le 4 mars 1841". which enriches the historical and documentary dimension of the passport. Very fine decorative and collectible piece on travel between Ireland, England and France in the XIXᵉ century. Very satisfactory condition: usual folds, old creasing, paper slightly tired but overall beautiful appearance.
