OZOUF (Jacques) - Lot 204
OZOUF (Jacques) (Alençon, 1928 - 2006) French historian, specialist in the 19th and 20th centuries, director of studies at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales. Autograph letter signed, addressed to "Monsieur". Paris, August 30, 1973. 1 page in-4. Intellectual correspondence - France-Culture Letter from Jacques Ozouf in response to an invitation to take part in the "Dialogues" program on France-Culture, testifying to his integration into the intellectual and media circles of 1970s France. In this letter, Ozouf warmly thanks his correspondent for the invitation, while expressing his regret at not being able to accept it, as his schedule is already "so full" that he cannot "add the slightest thing to it". This courteous yet measured reply reflects the tone typical of exchanges between academics and cultural institutions at the time. Interest An interesting document for several reasons: illustrates the relationship between historians and the cultural media (France-Culture); testimony to the intellectual influence of a major historian of the second half of the 20th century; a record of the media attention to which academics were subjected during this period; representative of professional correspondence in contemporary academic circles. The mention of the "Dialogues" program places the letter in the broader context of the development of intellectual radio exchanges in France. Biographical background Jacques Ozouf, agrégé d'histoire, was one of the leading exponents of French social and cultural history. Close to the work of the École des Annales, he was particularly interested in the history of education and the training of republican elites. He worked closely with Mona Ozouf, with whom he published several reference works.
