NETTEMENT, Alfred-François - Lot 196
NETTEMENT, Alfred-François (Paris, 1805 - 1869) Legitimist journalist, historian and publicist. Autograph letter signed "Alfred Nettement", addressed to "Monsieur le Comte". Paris, March 13, 1844. 1 page in-8. Letter addressed to an aristocrat, in which Alfred Nettement solicits support for the insertion of a note in La Quotidienne, the legitimist press organ to which he actively contributes. He formulates his request with deference: "Is it an indiscretion to ask for your help in obtaining the insertion in La Quotidienne of the following note relating to the baptism of one of the daughters of Madame de Chaumont, my first cousin...". This short bill bears witness to the social and media habits of the July monarchy, where the press and aristocratic networks remained closely intertwined. A revealing document of the circuits of influence and practices of recommendation in the political press of the XIXᵉ century, as well as of its author's family and worldly roots.
