MICHELET (Jules) (1798 - 1874) French historian and writer. Two handwritten drafts signed "J. Michelet". Brussels, February 6, 1863. 2 oblong pieces (approx. 10.5 × 27.5 cm), on paper printed by the publishers A. Lacroix, Verboeckhoven & Cie (Brussels and Leipzig). Set of two drafts payable to Jules Michelet, each in the amount of one thousand francs, issued by his Brussels publishers. The documents bear: the publishers' stamps and letterpress labels handwritten statements of payment Jules Michelet's autograph signature on verso, with receipt involvement of bookseller Laurent-Antoine Pagnerre as intermediary These documents bear direct witness to the financial relations between Michelet and his foreign publishers, at a time when his works were being widely distributed in Belgium.
