MÉZIÈRES, Alfred - Lot 179
MÉZIÈRES, Alfred (Rehon, Meurthe-et-Moselle, 1826 - Paris, 1915) Journalist, politician, president of the Association des journalistes parisiens, co-founder of Le Temps, deputy then senator for Meurthe-et-Moselle. Autograph bill signed "A. Mézières", addressed to "Cher Monsieur". Paris, February 9 [circa 1910]. 1 page in-16 oblong, printed Senate letterhead. Short bill of a practical nature, in which Mézières mentions a missed visit from Mme de Jouvenel and asks his correspondent to pass on a message: "Please be so kind as to tell her that I shall be able to be at home that day before eleven o'clock". This type of brief, functional correspondence illustrates the social network of a public figure in the Third Republic, combining political, journalistic and social relations. The presence of the Senate letterhead is a reminder of his institutional position at the end of his career. A modest document, but typical of the daily correspondence of a leading parliamentarian.
