MENTELLE (Edme) - Lot 176
MENTELLE (Edme) (1730-1815) French geographer, member of the Institut, professor of geography at the École Militaire. Autograph letter signed Tuesday, March 12 [early 19th century]. 1 page in-8, autograph address on verso, wax seal partially preserved. Addressed to M. d'Aubas, at the Ministry of the Imperial Treasury, Paris. Interesting letter with financial content Long, remarkable letter in which Mentelle describes a credit operation based on a 2245-lb. bill, with interest calculated at 10% and a detailed payment schedule. In particular, he states: "...I have to pay on the 19th a bill of 2245 l..." and develops a system of repayment in instalments: "...at the end of July... 200 pounds... ...at the end of October... 200... ...at the end of January 1807... 200...". The letter describes an arrangement based on : the intervention of a third party (Mme S. Aubin) the delivery of 200-pound bills an endorsement mechanism the search for a cash equivalent
