LÉVY (Maurice) (1838-1910) French mathematician and engineer, member of the Académie des Sciences. Autograph letter signed "M. Lévy" to Léon Labbé Paris, September 8, 1901. 1 ½ page in-8. Letter concerning an election to the Institut Interesting letter in which Maurice Lévy lends his support to Léon Labbé, then a candidate for the Institut. He assures him that he will vote in favor of a commission that is favorable to him, explicitly mentioning the internal mechanisms of the ballot: "...first act of the electoral operation for free members..." This passage sheds light on the practices and strategies surrounding elections within the Academy of Sciences, rarely documented in such a direct manner.
