LEVASSOR (Émile) - Lot 159
LEVASSOR (Émile) Marolles-en-Hurepoix, 1843 - 1897 French engineer, pioneer of the automobile industry, co-founder with René Panhard of the Panhard & Levassor brand, responsible for the first industrial developments of the automobile in France. Autograph letter signed "Levassor" to a correspondent Paris, 7 rue du Conservatoire, April 11, 1863 ½ page in-8. Short, courteous letter in which Émile Levassor requests a postponement of an appointment originally scheduled for "tomorrow at 4 a.m.", asking his correspondent to "kindly postpone" it "to Monday at the same hour". He concludes with a strong expression of gratitude: "You will infinitely oblige your most grateful servant". This bill belongs to the early career of Levassor, who trained at the École Centrale before his decisive association with René Panhard. Together, they laid the foundations of the French automotive industry, developing the first mass-produced vehicles under the Panhard & Levassor name. Their "PL" monogram would remain one of the major emblems of the automobile well into the XXᵉ century. Good condition.
