LEGION OF HONOR - CENT-DAYS - Lot 154
LEGION OF HONOR - CENT-DAYS LACÉPÈDE, Bernard Germain Étienne, comte de (1756-1825) Naturalist, zoologist, statesman, Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor. P.S. signed "b.g.e. cte de Lacépède", Paris, March 20, 1813 (or to be verified: the handwritten note mentions Cent-Jours / 1815; the date on the piece seems to have to be confirmed by direct reading), 1 folio page, printed header: "LEGION D'HONNEUR - Le Grand-Chancelier, Ministre d'État". A very fine administrative and historical document. Address to: Monsieur Gillet, lieutenant of the reserve company, concerning his application for admission to the Order of the Legion of Honor. The Grand Chancellor writes: "I sincerely hope that your wish will soon be fulfilled; I will forget neither your services nor your honorable mutilation". A beautiful text, with a strong human and military dimension, directly evoking the services rendered as well as the recipient's war wounds. Particularly interesting for its Napoleonic context and its direct link to the Legion of Honor. Good condition, with the usual central folds.
