LEGION OF HONOR - RESTORATION - Lot 153
LEGION OF HONOR - RESTORATION MACDONALD (Étienne Jacques Joseph Alexandre, Duke of Taranto, 1765-1840) Marshal of the Empire, Peer of France, Grand Chancellor of the Royal Order of the Legion of Honor during the Restoration. Official printed circular from the Grand Chancellery of the Royal Order of the Legion of Honor, addressed "To the Members of the Order", concerning the Royal Order of March 26, 1816. 2 printed folios, text on 4 pages, heading: "Grande Chancellerie de l'ordre royal de la Légion d'honneur". The first part describes the reorganization of the Order after the Restoration, and specifies that a single new series of numbers has been introduced for all past and future appointments. The document then details the supporting documents required for the establishment of new patents: legalized birth certificates, individuality reports, military or civil service records, as well as special cases concerning ecclesiastics, scholars and artists. The last page bears the printed mention: "The Grand Chancellor of the Royal Order of the Legion of Honor, MACDONALD". as well as : "Vicomte de Saint-Mars". Of great interest for the administrative history of the Legion of Honor under Louis XVIII, testifying to the reorganization of registers and patents after the fall of the Empire. Good condition, despite original folds and a few small scattered spots of foxing.
