LÉAUTÉ (Henry). - Lot 146
LÉAUTÉ (Henry). Born Belize, 1847 - died 1916. French engineer and mathematician, specialist in electricity, elected to the Académie des Sciences in 1890. Autograph letter signed "H. Léauté", addressed to "Mon cher Docteur". Évian-les-Bains, July 22, 1910. 1 page 1/3 in-8, on engraved letterhead of the Royal Hôtel in Évian-les-Bains. Charming occasional letter in which Henry Léauté, then vacationing in Évian, sends his congratulations on the occasion of a wedding. He elegantly evokes the impossibility of attending the ceremony and expresses "the expression of our old and cordial sympathy", testifying to an ongoing relationship with his correspondent. An important figure in the development of industrial electricity in France, notably as director of the Société Industrielle de Téléphone and the Compagnie Parisienne de Distribution d'électricité, Léauté leaves a more intimate trace here, revealing the social and epistolary customs of the early 20th century in scientific and social circles.
