LAVISSE (Ernest) - Lot 143
LAVISSE (Ernest) (1842 - 1922) Historian, founder of positivist history in France, academician. Autograph letter signed "E. L." to a friend. Paris, June 9, 1903. 1 p. in-8. Printed letterhead from La Revue de Paris, 85 bis Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Lively, familiar letter in which Lavisse humorously evokes the difficulties of organizing a trip: "Asking for a ticket the day before! You have to be from Buenos-Ayres! (...) Max will have to send someone to stand in line...". In the end, he recommends going to the Champs-Élysées, "full of Guignols", in a light, almost worldly tone that reveals Parisian sociability during the Belle Époque.
