LANGLOIS (Victor) - Lot 137
LANGLOIS (Victor) Born Dieppe, 1829 - died 1869. Orientalist and numismatist, specialist in Armenian studies. Autograph letter signed "V. Langlois", addressed to Monsieur [librarian of Dieppe]. [Paris], n.d. ("this Saturday morning"). 1 page in-8. Courtesy and follow-up letter in which Langlois, on his return to Paris, announces that he will resume the work entrusted to him concerning the Dieppe Library. He specifies that he will inform his correspondent of his errands "to the various Ministries" and sends him "various fascicles" intended to enrich the collection of works he has already donated to his native town. This brief but significant bill illustrates Langlois' ongoing commitment to the Dieppe library, as well as the scholarly and administrative networks mobilized to enrich public collections in the 19th century.
