LALOU (René). - Lot 134
LALOU (René). Born in Paris in 1877 - died in 1973. French lawyer, critic and man of letters. Autograph letter signed "René Lalou", addressed to "Cher Ami" [Pierre Abraham]. [Paris], 6 rue de Seine (VIe), December 3, 1933. 2 pages in-8, on slate paper (two binder perforations). Charming, witty letter to writer and critic Pierre Abraham, in which Lalou recounts, in a tone both light and erudite, a waking dream born of a feverish state. Evoking a flu contracted after class, he describes a night peopled by visions of music and literature, particularly Debussy and L'Après-midi d'un faune. In this dream, Pierre Abraham himself appears, in a scene that is both comical and slightly disturbing, and which Lalou analyzes with humor, wondering whether a Freudian interpretation should be sought. The letter closes with a quotation from Macbeth, revealing the literary culture and playful spirit of its author. A lively document, combining introspection, humor and artistic references, testifying to the intellectual exchanges between two figures of the interwar literary world. Autograph signature.
