LAFFITTE (Jacques). - Lot 132
LAFFITTE (Jacques). Born in Bayonne in 1767 - died in 1844. French banker and politician, governor of the Banque de France, liberal deputy, major player in the July Revolution and President of the Council under Louis-Philippe. Autograph letter signed "J. Laffitte", addressed to a gentleman. Paris, October 8, 1834. 1 page in-8. Address on verso, traces of postmarks. Circumstantial letter in which Jacques Laffitte, about to leave Paris for a trip to the Vendée and Brittany, apologizes for a delay he will be unable to avoid. However, he promises to keep his correspondent informed of his return and to devote the necessary time to him, also mentioning his relations with contacts in Rouen. This seemingly simple bill bears witness to the sustained pace of Laffitte's political and financial activities in the years following the 1830 Revolution, as well as to his networks of influence in the provinces. It illustrates the daily correspondence of a key player in the July monarchy, torn between political commitments and personal obligations. Autograph signature.
