LA SAUSSAYE (Louis de) - Lot 126
LA SAUSSAYE (Louis de) Born in Blois in 1801 - died in 1878. Historian, archaeologist and numismatist. Rector of the Lyon Academy. Member of Parliament and General Councillor for Loir-et-Cher. Important scholarly letter devoted to genealogical and historical research, notably on the Papin family and various Orléans lineages. La Saussaye refers to the documents he had gathered in Germany, which he made available to his correspondent in order to complete his already advanced work on Denis Papin's genealogy. He extends his investigations to other families, notably the Brillons and Du Prats, and discusses the hypothesis of a link with the poet Alain Chartier. The letter also contains an interesting development on the Sainte-Croix d'Orléans cathedral, in particular the Saint-Charles-Borromée chapel and a stained-glass window project inspired by the Annales ecclésiastiques d'Orléans (late 16th century), revealing the author's interest in monumental history and local memory. It continues with practical considerations relating to the Bibliothèque de Blois: shipment of boxes of books, binding invoices (from Gardien, successor to Ottmann-Duplani), volumes on hold, testifying to the material circuits of books and the care taken in building up public collections in the 19th century. A dense document, representative of La Saussaye's scholarly activity, combining genealogical erudition, local history and practical library management.
