JULIENNE (Madame) - Lot 122
JULIENNE (Madame) HAUTE-COUTURE - Madame JULIENNE Stylist with Paul Poiret and Robert Piguet L.A.S. signed "Ta vieille Julienne", addressed to Bernard Grasset Paris, Tuesday, May 13, undated [1930s]. 1 1/2 pages in-folio, on large Robert Piguet art-deco letterhead, Champs-Élysées, Paris. A few stains and minor foxing on verso, not serious. A touching and beautiful letter from the designer, written on the paper of the famous Robert Piguet couture house, in gratitude for a dedication on a Grasset book. The tone is one of great intimacy: "thank you for the book and the so affectionate dedication". and quickly becomes very personal, almost romantic: "We all carry the angel and the devil within us". "Where are your loves?" The letter mixes sentimental considerations, reflections on human nature and more intimate notes on parents' old age and the passage of time: "I found them well aged" The whole ends on a delicately melancholy and affectionate note: "don't forget... I kiss you and always follow your old Julienne". A beautiful testimony to the relationship between the world of Parisian haute couture and that of literary publishing. Particularly attractive for the quality of the writing and the superb letterhead.
