JULIENNE (Madame) - Lot 120
JULIENNE (Madame) Stylist with Paul Poiret then Robert Piguet Set of autograph correspondence addressed to Bernard Grasset, including: L.A.S. signed "Julienne", on Robert Piguet letterhead, Paris, January 25, 1939, 1 page in-folio autograph postcard signed "ta vieille Julienne", undated original signed pencil drawing of an elegant women's fashion sketch (approx. 19 × 12 cm) printed invitation from Paul Poiret, engraved and signed Vox A handsome set, testifying to the links between the world of Parisian couture and that of literary publishing around Bernard Grasset. The letter on Robert Piguet letterhead is particularly evocative, evoking Julienne's return to the world of fashion: "I've come back to my couture... I've tried the impossible to go back upstream". A lively piece, both intimate and professional, bearing witness to a couture woman in the heart of pre-war Paris. The accompanying signed sketch is the centerpiece of the set: an elegant full-length silhouette, typical of the Parisian aesthetic of the late 1930s. The highly decorative Paul Poiret card adds to the interest of the provenance and places the author in the orbit of Parisian haute couture. Good overall condition; some wear creases.
