HENRI-ROBERT - Lot 110
HENRI-ROBERT Paris, 1863 - 1936. French lawyer and historian, elected to the Académie française in 1923. Autograph bill signed and autograph letter signed "Henri-Robert", addressed to "Monsieur le Président". Paris, n.d. Set of 2 pieces: ½ page in-12 and 1 page 1/3 in-8, on headed paper from his Paris address and from the Ordre des avocats à la Cour d'appel de Paris. Interesting set of correspondence illustrating the courteous yet measured tone of one of the most brilliant lawyers of the Belle Époque and interwar period. The autograph bill presents itself as a concise, elegant expression of thanks: "Mes plus vifs et respectueux remerciements" ("My warmest and most respectful thanks"), characteristic of the author's sober protocol. The letter expands on this, expressing sincere gratitude for a tribute paid to a colleague, as well as flattering words addressed to Henri-Robert himself. With subtle modesty, he declares himself "confused and grateful", attributing the praise he has received not to his own merits but to his correspondent's "benevolent friendship". A major figure at the Paris bar, renowned for his oratorical skills in major criminal cases, Henri-Robert was also a renowned historian and author of numerous works, which gives this collection both a judicial and literary interest.
