HÉBRARD (Adrien). - Lot 109
HÉBRARD (Adrien). Born in Grisolles, 1833 - died in Paris, 1914. French journalist and politician. Director of Le Temps newspaper, then Senator for Haute-Garonne. Autograph letter signed "A. Hébrard", addressed to a friend. Paris, February 2, 1911. 1 page in-12. Printed letterhead of the newspaper Le Temps. Charming, familiar letter in which Hébrard confirms a forthcoming appointment, set for February 10, while expressing his sensitivity to his correspondent's "affectionate insistence". He adds, not without wit, that "in the old days" he wouldn't have dared to miss speaking "to a pretty woman", slipping in a characteristic touch of worldly humor. Short but to the point, this letter bears witness to the elegant, witty tone of one of the leading figures of the Parisian press at the end of the 19th century, then head of the prestigious daily Le Temps, an influential organ of French political and intellectual life.
