FELETZ (Charles-Marie de, abbé). - Lot 82
FELETZ (Charles-Marie de, abbé). Gumond, 1767 - Paris, 1850. Churchman, journalist, member of the Académie française, curator of the Bibliothèque Mazarine, literary critic. 2 autograph letters signed "Feletz". 1 page in-4 and 1 page in-8. Subscriptions. Trace of blue wax seal. Interesting set of two letters in which Abbé Feletz vivaciously evokes his activities and relations in the literary and administrative world. In the first, he apologizes for a delay caused by illness, and goes on to explain that he had given up publishing advertisements in the Journal des Débats, complaining of the annoyance they attracted. He mentions his work on the Thesaurus Biblicus and Thesaurus Patrius, as well as his relations with various correspondents. The second concerns administrative procedures and the transmission of documents relating to his uncle, M. de Fars, whose interests he defends to a third party, testifying to his role as intermediary and advisor. A key figure in the intellectual world under the Restoration, Feletz was a critic for the Journal des Débats and then the Mercure de France, after having been a refractory priest imprisoned under the Terror.
