DUNOYER (Charles). - Lot 71
DUNOYER (Charles). Born 1786 - died 1862. Economist and State Councillor. Autograph letter signed "Dunoyer", addressed to the president of an Academy. S.l.n.d. (Thursday, June 7). 2/3 page in-8. Interesting letter concerning the work of the Académie des Sciences morales et politiques. Dunoyer discusses the subject of a competition devoted to "the dangerous classes in Paris and the other major capitals of Europe", for which he has been appointed rapporteur. He points out that his report has already been read by the section and must be presented to the Académie at the next session, his presence being deemed indispensable. Constrained by this obligation, he informs his correspondent that he will be unable to attend the meeting of their own Académie. This document reveals the intellectual and social debates of the 19th century around the question of the urban working classes, a major theme of liberal and administrative thought at the time. Autograph signature.
