DAUBRÉE (Gabriel-Auguste) (1814-1896) French geologist, member of the Institut, professor at the École des Mines, director of the Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle, Grand Officer of the Légion d'Honneur. Autograph letter signed "A. Daubrée" (co-signed) Paris, May 30, 1879. 2 pages in-4 on Société de Géographie letterhead. Official letter concerning the Société Normande de Géographie Letter addressed to Gabriel Gravier, President of the Société Normande de Géographie. The Société de Géographie de Paris acknowledges receipt of the constitution of the office of the Société Normande and expresses its best wishes for success: "...best wishes for a warm welcome, sympathy and success to the Société Normande de Géographie...". It also proposes an exchange of publications between the two institutions, reflecting 19th-century scholarly dissemination practices: "...it will be happy to exchange its publications..." The document underlines the active role of the correspondent in the creation of this new group: "...thank you for the active part you have played in setting up this new French geographical group."
