DACIER (Bon-Joseph) - Lot 60
DACIER (Bon-Joseph) Born in Valognes in 1742 - died in 1833. Man of letters, perpetual secretary of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, member of the Académie française. Autograph letter signed "Dacier", addressed to the Commissaire du Directoire exécutif près l'administration du canton de Louvres. Louvres, 1er germinal an V [21 mars 1797]. 1 small folio page. Interesting administrative letter from the Directoire period, written in republican style ("Citoyen"), concerning the distribution of official instructions. Dacier acknowledges receipt of twelve copies of an instruction from the Corps législatif concerning the holding of primary assemblies, stating that he has immediately distributed them "in accordance with your intentions". He also indicates that he will ensure that they are returned to the administration secretariat after use. This document bears witness to the role played by men of letters in the revolutionary administration, helping to circulate official texts and implement them at local level. It also illustrates the bureaucratic practices of the period, between centralization and territorial relays. Clear autograph signature.
