CONSTANS (Ernest) (1833-1913). - Lot 47
CONSTANS (Ernest) (1833-1913). French politician. Minister and ambassador. Major figure of the Third Republic. C.A.S. "Constans" to L. Labbé [senator]. Constantinople, November 11, 1903. 1 page in-8. Header of the French Embassy in Constantinople. Embassy letter, both official and personal in tone. Constans apologizes for the delay in his reply, mentioning a domestic incident - his wife "sprained her right knee" - before congratulating his correspondent on the engagement of Léon Labbé's son, testimony to an ongoing relationship between political circles. He concludes by affirming his attachment: "...You know how much interest I take in all those who have a close relationship with you...". An interesting account of French diplomacy in Constantinople in the early 20th century, combining official correspondence and personal relations between political elites.
