BOYER, Jean-Pierre (1776-1850) - Lot 23
BOYER, Jean-Pierre (1776-1850) President of Haiti, successor to Alexandre Pétion, in power from 1818 to 1843. Letter signed "Boyer", Port-au-Prince, January 26, 1825, year 22 of Independence. Handsomely handwritten on laid paper, under a large letterhead bearing the coat of arms of the Republic of Haiti, with the motto: "Liberté - Égalité The text, written on behalf of Jean-Pierre Boyer, President of Haiti, is an interesting administrative document concerning the functioning of the General Secretariat. In it, Boyer orders the issue of office supplies: "three reams of cut paper, three bottles of ink and eight packets of quill pens". This document is particularly evocative of the administrative life of the Haitian state under Boyer's presidency, revealing the day-to-day workings of government departments. Boyer's handsome autograph signature, large and well marked, at the bottom of the text. Handwritten recording note: "Enregistré au Magasin n° 117 Satisfactory state of preservation: old folds, slight marginal wear and small chips at bottom edge, but no damage to text or signature. An attractive document, as much for its highly decorative heraldic header as for its concrete, administrative content.
