BERILLON (Edgar) - Lot 11
BERILLON (Edgar) Saint-Fargeau, 1859 - 1948. French psychiatrist. Autograph letter signed "E. Berillon", addressed to "Ma chère élève". Paris, September 7, 1935. 1 page in-8. Paper with her name and address. Interesting professional letter in which psychiatrist Edgar Berillon responds to a student seeking his advice. He makes himself available for an interview, favoring direct exchange over abstract reflection, in an approach very characteristic of clinical practice: "In response to your request, I'm willing to give you my opinion... It would be easier for me to answer your questions directly than to think about them at length... When you come my answers will be self-evident..." The document illustrates the master-pupil relationship and the lively transmission of medical knowledge between the wars, when experience and dialogue took precedence over pure theory. Berillon was a leading figure in French psychiatry, particularly in the study of behavior and applied psychology.
